1. Provide a good site design

The site should be optimised and readable for a range of browsers and operating systems

Html coding should be so condense that all the important text passes within 200 lines.

Use the rowspan=2 method to get your bodytext first and menu later in the tablecode.

Make clear navigation with normal links

Use [h1] [h2] tags for titles and [bold] or [strong], [li] for more important text,
changing their styles with a stylesheet

Put keywords in, decending in order of importance,
the title, header, beginning of the bodytext and alt text.
Use the proper title, description and keywords tags.

Give away usefull whitepapers, screensavers etc. so clients like to come back.

Create a suited landingpage where customers arrive at the site from a (paid) click,
this way you can direct the customer and measure the results.

Add a sitemap hierarchically using [h1] [h2] tags.

Better not:
Better not use html editors, the are not designed to optimise your site, but for quick setup.
Better let it hand code it professionally.

The donts:
dont use frames
dont use flash or javascriptmenus for navigation
